Swindon Martial Arts Instructor, Andy Dunn, entered the WAKO British Championships 2012, in the -79kg and -74kg divisions, earning himself 2nd and 3rd place wins.
In the -74kg division, Andy was quick off the mark, blitzing his opponent and leaving him unable to respond. Andy kept up the pace and finished the fight within the first round, with a 10 point difference, final score 1-11.
Andy’s second fight in the -74kg division saw him having to work harder than his previous fight. Andy slowed his pace and unfortunately was caught out on a number of occasions. A close fight throughout, Andy fought back well, but sadly it was not enough to put him through to the finals.
Overall, Andy placed 3rd earning him a place on Team GB for the WAKO European Championships later in the year.
Next came the -79 division. Andy fought well in his first fight, earning himself a place in the next round. Andy continued to show great control in his second fight and took the opportunities to score when they were presented to him. With one minute to go, the scores were level. Andy stepped up the pace and finished the fight with a 4 point difference, earning him the win.
The final saw Andy fighting against a member of his own team. Both fighters put on a great display and showed why they deserved to be in the final. Unfortunately, Andy was beaten by his opponent but finished with a 2nd place win and again, earning him a place on Team GB for the WAKO European Championships in the -79kg division.
Well done Andy!
